Happy New Year! And happy new cake year! I hope you all had a great festive break and are ready for a cake filled year! Last year we saw a lot more buttercream on cakes and the fault line cake was the new cake trend for the year so what’s going to be popular this year?

Here are my top cake decorating trend predictions…..

Fault Line Cakes @rococoa.butter

Fault Line Cakes – these cakes broke the internet last year and I think they’re going to keep going this year and I can’t wait to see what new ideas and designs cake makers come up with

Metallics @rockbakehouse

Metallics – the metallics are still going strong. I love a bit of gold on my cakes and so do so many others. We might see other metallics like silver or rose gold making an impact but I really think that gold will stay strong

Buttercream Cakes @rockbakehouse

Buttercream – move over sugarpaste fondant, buttercream is here to stay! Whether it’s American, Swiss or American, everyone I speak to seems to prefer buttercream over fondant and it’s also much easier to work with so that’s a win win!

Sprinkles Cakes @frostedfujicakes

Sprinkles – who doesn’t love sprinkles? The sprinkles craze will continue, whether that be on a fault line cake, as a a border along the bottom of a cake or just sprinkled on a cake……I love a sprinkle mix!
